CHAOS Magazine: "The Diviners"

"The Diviners" stems from a practice dating back to the 16th century where dowsers or diviners were believed to be able to find water using two rods that cross over each other, hence the term "x" marks the spot. In a way, this motion branded any given point a source of prosperity.

Wearing white, the men of the story take on an almost ethereal quality, slipping in and out of darkness, the way light dissolves in the blackness of water. They become the keepers to the secrets that lay in wells, the knowers of the source and the pull of the undertow.
